Compared with nasal masks, full-face masks are associated with an increase in dead space, risk of aspiration, and claustrophobia.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: A
If the problem is ventilation, the full-face mask is the interface of choice and should be used ini-tially in greater than 90 of patients requiring noninvasive positive-pressure ventilation for acute respiratory failure.
