The three most common types of occupational interstitial lung disease are asbestosis, chronic sili-cosis, and coal worker's pneumoconiosis. Predictable clinical and radiographic abnormalities oc-cur in susceptible patients who have been exposed to asbestos. These abnormalities include pleu-ral changes (plaques, fibrosis, effusions, atelectasis, and mesothelioma) as well as parenchymal scarring and lung cancer.
