Answer to Question 1

A
Feedback:
The preferred site for venipuncture in infants is the femoral (thigh) area. When this site is used, the nurse should stand at the child's head and hold the child on the back with legs spread apart (frog-leg position).

Answer to Question 2

D
Feedback:
The nurse should make sure the client is wearing one or two name bands, per agency protocol. An allergy band must also be worn, whether or not the client has allergies. Most clients are admitted on the morning of surgery, even if they are to be admitted to the hospital after surgery. Nearly all of these clients will be required to do their preoperative preparation at home. The nurse should remove all jewelry and/or tape a wedding ring in place. The client may be allowed to wear glasses and a hearing aid until all the permits are signed and all explanations are given. Then, these are placed with the client's other property.
