She promoted nurses bringing basins of clean water to the beds of clients and promoted hand washing to prevent nurses from carrying sickness from one client to another. She promoted cleansing wounds with soap and water and providing clean bandages. She kept statistical records comparing the mortality rates before and after applying her scientific principles, which constitutes research. She did not provide nursing care through trial and error.
