Answer to Question 1

Ans:
C

Feedback:

Audio recording while practicing speaking gives the nursing student the best approach to improve her verbal communication skills. She can continue this process until she is comfortable that her speech does not become too soft or that her words could be slurred. Practicing in front of a mirror will help with improving nonverbal communication. Asking the class to tell the student when words are hard to hear or asking the client to repeat the student's words places the responsibility of pointing out problems on another person, and they do not offer the nursing student the opportunity to self-improve her verbal communication. The client should not have to repeat everything the student says.

Answer to Question 2

Ans: B
Feedback:
It takes approximately 8 years of education to obtain a Doctorate in nursing. To become a hospital administrator would most likely require experience in lower levels of management, so this is not a realistic goal. An Associate's Degree in nursing is a 2-year Degree, so within 5 years, this is realistic. To teach in a vocational nursing program at a college, the student would need to obtain Bachelor's in nursing, and although it is possible to do so in 5 years, the goal did not state any educational preparation past the vocational program was sought, so this is not a realistic career goal. It would take 6 or more years to become a nurse practitioner since it requires a Master's Degree, so this is also not a realistic goal.
