fixer

Rationale: During fixation, the unused or unexposed silver halide crystals in the film are removed. In addition, the fixer serves to stop the development process and hardens the film emulsion.

Answer to Question 2

be passed on to the next generation

Rationale: Germline mutations will be passed on to the next generation. Somatic mutations will die with the individual.
