All needles have three components, they are classified according to the type of point they have cutting, taper, and blunt.

Avoid spilling the fluid within the suture packet onto the sterile field; do not remove the suture from the packet until ready to use the stitch to avoid having the alcohol evaporate; dip the strand momentarily in saline to soften it slightly; unwind the strand carefully before handing it up; do not pull or stretch the suture, which will weaken it.
