The circulating nurse should first identify the patient by asking the name and verifying it on the wristband and then check for allergies, informed consent, and laboratory and test results and verify the surgical procedure with the patient. Additionally the nurse should check the side rails, catheters, history and physical; determine whether patient valuables need to be removed; and review the care plan identified for the patient.

ANS: D
Preoperative instructions are reiterated, reminding the patient of NPO status, and discussing which responsible adult will be providing transportation home if it is an ambulatory surgery.
