Answer to Question 1

Standard navicular views include the palmaroproximal skyline, lateral, and 65-degree
dorsopalmar upright pedal. Optional views include the 65-degree dorsoproximallatera l and
dorsoproximalmedial obliques.

Answer to Question 2

Wire is used to facilitate examination for P3 (coffin) rotation. In other words, the veterinarian
is checking to see whether P3 has rotated relative to the hoof wall. The wire provides a
radiodense approximation of the hoof wall and facilitates the comparison. This technique is
typically used for evaluation of laminitic or foundered horses.
