Answer to Question 1

B
Although rarely used, electroconvulsive therapy is effective in treating mania. It may have a role in situations where lithium is contraindicated, particularly during early pregnancy. Some evidence supports the usefulness of calcium channel blockers in mania unresponsive to either lithium or anticonvulsants.

Answer to Question 2

D
The spouse of the client is beginning to exhibit signs of caregiver role strain. The mental and physical stresses of caregiving may include isolation and alienation from friends, sleep disturbances, fatigue, and more frequently, complaints of stress-related illnesses such as headache and gastrointestinal disturbances. The nurse would recognize that the spouse, as major caregiver, requires information about respite care options.
