This response is calm, matter-of-fact, and firm. The nurse is not permitting the client to be manip-ulative, nor is she setting up a situation in which a power struggle is likely to arise. Option 1 praises the client for her behavior. Option 2 is manipulative on the part of the nurse. Option 3 suggests the client will not be weighed according to schedule.

Resisting the urge to purge can be facilitated by reporting it to a trusted person and talking about the feelings that gave rise to the urge.
