The general aggression model (GAM) is a framework that accounts for the interaction of cognition, affect, and arousal during an aggressive episode. Cognition includes hostile thoughts and scripts (previous behavior patterns and responses to similar episodes). Mood, emotion, and expressive motor responses (automatic reactions to specific emotions) represent the affect component. Arousal can be physiologic, psychological, or both.
