Risk factors for EPSEs include female gender, first episode of schizophrenia, and use of a traditional antipsychotic medication. The other patients are at lower or no risk because of taking an atypical antipsychotic, a tricyclic antidepressant, and an antianxiety drug. Men are at lower risk.
