What does the soldiers house seem to symbolize?

Answer to Question 1


  • Read from a political perspective, the house may symbolize the brutality of the Japanese occupation of Korea. But the poem also suggests a broader symbolic reading in which the house being built is death.



Answer to Question 2


  • The title is a pun on the two meanings of occupation, which can mean either profession or job and the military control of one country by another.
