Answer to Question 1

Birds establish hierarchy by how high they are on the branch. Many large birds, when perched on a shoulder, are higher than the person's head. In this instance, the bird's perception is that it is the boss. The risks of zoonotic diseases are also of concern (psittacosis, giardia).
