Answer to Question 1

It is expected that robotics will be used to design picking mechanisms that closely resemble the human hand in function, potentially with the dexterity to be able to handpick fruit and/or vegetables that currently require careful handling and are labor-intensive.

Answer to Question 2

Computers have revolutionized the way decisions are made on the farm in these three ways:

1 . Animal sires and dams are selected based on computer databases.
2 . Marketing decisions are made based on computer predictions of commodity futures.
3 . Maintenance schedules, including those for irrigation, pesticide application, and harvesting, have been computerized.
