1 . It aids in the conservation of trees.
2 . It helps alleviate problems with waste disposal.

Answer to Question 2

Lumber from slow growing trees is usually of higher quality because the rings are more closely spaced, which makes it stronger and less likely to warp or twist after it is sawed.
