The use of growth hormones in animals is generally considered safe because:

1 . The site of the hormone implant is in the ear, which is a part of the animal not used for human consumption.
2 . The amount of hormone used is so small that no harmful effects can occur.
3 . Producers are required to withdraw the hormones within a specified time before the animal is slaughtered.
