Answer to Question 1

Water is pumped to the top of the evaporative cooling pads through an overhead pipe. Water drips
through the pad while the exhaust fans pull outside air through the wet pads, which cools the air
moving through the greenhouse.

Answer to Question 2

The size of the biological filter is determined by: (1) estimating the ammonia produced from the feed
added to the system, (2) the surface area per cubic foot of the selected material, and (3) the necessary
surface area of microorganisms to remove the ammonia to safe levels.
