Dendrology is the study of woody plants, particularly trees, forest ecology, protection, measurements, land surveying,
aerial photo interpretation, woods safety, harvesting techniques, multiple-use of forest land, forest management
practices, and principles of human resource (personnel).



Answer to Question 2

In May 2012, there were 9,470 foresters in the United States. Federal, state, or local governments employ a large
percent of foresters. Some work for the United States Park Service in the Department of the Interior. Others are
employed by the Forest Service and other agencies in the Department of Agriculture. The remaining foresters
occupy a wide range of positions.
