After a forest fire in 1950, a badly burned bear cub was rescued, nursed back to health, and nicknamed Smokey
Bear. After regaining its health, Smokey was moved to the National Zoo in Washington, DC, and became a living
symbol of the national forest fire prevention campaign



Answer to Question 2

The Peshtigo Fire destroyed 1.3 million acres of forest in Wisconsin and 2.5 million acres in Michigan. It killed
an estimated 1,638 people.
