Answer to Question 1

The seed must be viable, the seed must be exposed to the proper environmental
conditions, and primary dormancy must be overcome. After these criteria are met,
there must be imbibition of water, formation or activation of enzyme systems, and
breakdown of storage products for use during germination.

Answer to Question 2

Monocots store food in the endosperm and dicots store food in the cotyledons.
