Answer to Question 1

Student answers may vary by preference. Short distances are better marked with a
pencil whereas a longer distance can be done quickly and accurately with a chalk
line.



Answer to Question 2

A combination square can be used to check angles but also to keep lines at the
correct angle (90 degrees for example). It also does not shift as easily as a ruler.
