Answer to Question 1

Students should think about the relative age of the two forested areas, any
similarities such as soil type, rainfall and climate patterns, aspect (orientation and
elevation), and the kinds of products manufactured from the tree varieties in the
two study areas when answering this question

Answer to Question 2

The closer the value of the Index of Similarity is to 1.0, the higher the similarity
between the two study sites. An index value of 0.015, for example, would suggest
that only 1.5 percent of the vegetation was shared between the two sites. A value of
0.856 would tell you that 85.6 percent of the vegetation in the two forest sites was
identical. The answer to this question is a function of the two sites chosen for the
study.
