Answer to Question 1

A companion animal is identified by the special relationship that exists between the
owner and the animal. The owner considers the animal to be a friend or a companion.

Answer to Question 2

Dogs and cats are the most popular companion animals because they are able to form
lasting social bonds with their owners, and they are easily housetrained. Their size
makes them easy for people to play with, and people can keep them in the house. Most
importantly, they are able to express themselves to their owners with gestures and
sounds.
