Soybean oil is used for cooking and making margarine, shortening, cheese spreads, and
coffee whiteners. It is also used as a substitute for diesel fuel and as the basis for a highquality
ink.

The majority of the production of corn is in the Midwest because the soil is deep and
rich, and the rainfall is adequate.
