Hydroponic gardening is supplying the moisture and minerals plants need for growth as a liquid solution. The plant roots are flooded intermittently with the nutrient solution.

Answer to Question 2

By lighting at night to lengthen the day period or by pulling black cloth over the plants in the day to lengthen the night.
