Answer to Question 1

Use a chemical soil drench that is for root rot. Allow the medium to dry out more thoroughly between waterings. Do not completely drench the medium at each watering. Repot in a better draining medium and in a pot with a drainage hole.

Because it thrives in light and provides privacy while not completely excluding light from the window
