How can you determine if a plant needs repotting?

Question 2

You receive a gift plant that is too large for its pot but otherwise healthy. When you unpot it, you see that the roots have wrapped in circles. What should you do before planting it in its new pot?

Answer to Question 1

It dries out very quickly, is top heavy and prone to tip over, and the health is declining with no apparent reason

Answer to Question 2

Unwrap or cut the roots to force them to grow into the mew medium rather than continue to wrap in circles.
