Answer to Question 1

1) Sterilize benches, tools, and plant containers before use; 2) use new
growing medium or pasteurize growing medium; 3) purchase clean plant material;
4) inspect all incoming plant material for insect and/or mite pests and apply
pesticides (insecticides and miticides) if necessary; 5) remove all weeds from
within and around greenhouses; and 6) become familiar with those plants that are
highly-susceptible to insect and mite pests.

Answer to Question 2

Pest management is an integrated approach designed to minimize the
abundance (numbers) and damage from insect and mite pests. This involves
implementing a variety of strategies including sanitation (removal of weeds, and
plant material and growing medium debris), proper cultural practices (watering
and
fertility), scouting or monitoring the crop regularly, and applying either pesticides
or biological control agents (natural enemies) before insect and/or mite pest
populations reach outbreak proportions.
