Answer to Question 1

Mat watering has the advantage of accommodating pots of any size
without modification to the system. It requires a flat bench and leads to
modification of the fertilization system. Microtube watering requires adaptation to
fit pots of different sizes, but like mat watering it is a system which keeps plant
foliage dry thus reducing disease incidence. Overhead spray is the cheapest to
install. For a few crops it is a safe method of watering but for most, it fosters
disease development by wetting foliage.

Answer to Question 2

It raises the pH level of the root substrate.
