Answer to Question 1

B
Because secretions are produced by the skin and mucous membranes, the nurse should always implement standard precautions by wearing gloves when applying a topical drug. Standard precautions are used when eye care and medications are being administered because of the potential contact with bodily secretions. The nurse should follow standard precautions when administering rectal suppositories. The nurse does not need to follow standard precautions when administering an oral capsule.
