The transition phase begins when the cervix is dilated 8 cm and ends when the cervix is 10 cm. Pant-blow breathing methods are used during the transition phase of labor to assist the labor client resist the urge to bear down.

To set the flow rate for a client's IV infusion: prepare to set the flow rate (have paper and pencil ready to calculate, review calibration in drops per mL of each infusion set) and determine hourly rate by dividing total volume by total hours.
