Answer to Question 1

A
Autonomy refers to a person's right to choose and to act on that choice; it means that each person's right to make decisions is to be respected. In client care situations, a nurse must respect a client's right to decide a course of action; if a client is unable to make a decision because of legal incompetence, the nurse is responsible to protect that client.

Answer to Question 2

A
The normal serum potassium range is 3.5 to 5.0 mEq/L. Hyperkalemia, a serum potassium level greater than 5.0 mEq/L, results from inadequate excretion from the kidneys or from excessive trauma; it can be life threatening.
