The diet progression should be discussed with the client by the unit nurse as the postsurgical diet progresses. The call light may be specific to the unit the client is on and is best taught to the client once he or she is on the unit so that the client can demonstrate to the nurse that he or she understands how to use it. The PCA pump is best taught to the client once he or she is on the unit so that the client can demonstrate to the nurse that he or she understands how to use it.
