Answer to Question 1

ANS: B
The adverse effects of orally administered sodium polystyrene sulfonate resin include gastric ir-ritation. Anorexia, nausea, vomiting, and constipation may occur, especially with large doses. Large oral doses can cause fecal impaction, especially in older adults. Occasionally, the resin causes diarrhea.
