Answer to Question 1

ANS: C
Gastric lavage should only be done in life-threatening cases, and then only if less than 60 minutes has elapsed since ingestion of the poison. Contraindications include seizures (because of the risk of injury from the procedure and possible aspiration of stomach contents), ingestion of caustic substances, ingestion of high-viscosity petroleum distillates, significant arrhythmias, and bloody emesis.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: C
Grade III encompasses stable vital signs but absence of papillary reflexes and deep tendon re-flexes.
