Answer to Question 1

ANS: A
People who have not been vaccinated previously may experience fever, myalgia, and malaise lasting 1 to 2 days. The nurse should advise the patient to rest and take acetaminophen for the fever.
Nothing indicates that an adverse effect is occurring, therefore the patient need not return to the clinic.
These are not symptoms of an allergic response but an expected response.
There is no need to notify the CDC.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: A
Treatment should be interrupted if the absolute neutrophil count falls below 500/mm3 or if the platelet count falls below 25, 000/mm3.
Treatment need not be interrupted for a platelet count of 47, 000/mm3, a WBC of 900/mm3, or a lymphocyte count of 500/mm3.
