The primary use of entacapone in treating Parkinson's disease is to:
 
  1. protect the liver from damage from levodopa or carbidopa.
  2. inhibit decarboxylase enzymes, which are used to metabolize levodopa.
  3. inhibit COMT and prolong the half-life of levodopa in the blood.
  4. bind to dopamine receptors, causing their activation.

When used alone, how should selegiline be administered?
 
  1. At 6-hour intervals to ensure maintenance of plasma levels
  2. At bedtime to decrease the drowsiness that occurs early in treatment
