Tolerance is a state in which larger doses are required to produce the same response formerly produced by a lesser dose.
Drug abuse is a state in which an individual will seek and use the drug despite physical, psycho-logical, or social harm.
If the pain is undertreated, the patient may actually need more effective pain medication.
