Answer to Question 1

C
Elevated LDL levels make the greatest contribution to coronary atherosclerosis with the proba-bility of developing coronary heart disease (CHD) directly related to the LDL level in the blood. Total cholesterol levels do not have the same direct link. HDL levels cause increased risk when they are low. The relation between elevated very-low-density lipoprotein levels and CHD is not clear.

Answer to Question 2

D
Whole-bowel irrigation is done with a solution of polyethylene glycol, which contains balanced electrolytes. It is effective for ingestion of iron, lithium, and lead. Activated charcoal is not ef-fective against heavy metals, because they are poorly absorbed. Gastric lavage and peritoneal dialysis are not recommended.
