Answer to Question 1

A
Propranolol is contraindicated in patients with asthma, because it is a nonselective be-ta-adrenergic antagonist and can cause bronchoconstriction and exacerbate asthma. It is used to treat tachyarrhythmias and paroxysmal atrial tachycardia evoked by emotion, so it is not con-traindicated for patients with these conditions. It lowers blood pressure, so it would be helpful in patients with hypertension.

Answer to Question 2

A
The patient should avoid taking the medication with dairy products to help prevent chelation. An acnelike reaction would indicate an allergic response. Taking the medication with cal-cium-containing antacids or supplements should be avoided, because this also leads to chelation.
