A. A client needs to be NPO for 6 to 8 hours before the procedure to prevent possible aspiration because client is sedated.
B. The site of catheter insertion needs to be shaved and prepped with antiseptic just before the procedure.
C. Benadryl is used prophylactically to block histamine and decrease allergic responses.
D. Abnormal findings might contraindicate the procedure because hemorrhage and/or renal failure may be a complication. Report elevated BUN or creatinine levels because such clients are at risk for renal failure induced by contrast media.
