IF THE LINK IS BASED ON AN OBSERVATIONAL STUDY, THERE IS SIMPLY NO WAY TO RULE OUT ALL POTENTIAL CONFOUNDING FACTORS, SO CAUSE AND EFFECT CANNOT BE ESTABLISHED.
