0:47At about this time another part enters that is distinctly independent, yet interlocked and interwoven with the opening part which continues to flow along. The music almost takes on the character of two different pieces of music being played at the same time, yet in spite of sounding very polymetricthat is, more than one metric grouping of beats occurring at the same timethe music sounds joined together through a subtle rhythmic undercurrent. (See also Locke's description of the polymetric interplay and shifting between a three and four feel depending upon how you hear and feel the grouping of the pulses.)

At 1:46 a rattle (hosho) enters.
