Answer to Question 1

Reservation of Education was charted in France but banned or ignored by North American radio stations because of its controversial political message.
The lyrics feature a sharp and sophisticated critique of the boarding school system; the lyrics also speak to the large political concerns of Red Power activists.
Reservations and boarding schools were used to marginalize and control Native American populations.
The lyrics also address issues of racism and identity.

Answer to Question 2

XIT (pronounced exit) is an acronym for the Crossing (X) of Indian Tribes
The name of the group reflects the intertribal make-up of the band, which at various points in its history featured Dakota, Navajo, Cherokee, and Pueblo musicians.
