How can dye indicate system leaks?

Why does increased purge operation indicate a leak in the low side of a Type III system?

Answer to Question 1

Dye makes the refrigerant oil more visible, so oil spots are more visible.

Answer to Question 2

Increased purge time means more air is leaking into the low side during operation.
