Answer to Question 1

The gauges may be purged by opening the valves one at a time and releasing the air through the center hose.

Answer to Question 2

After connecting the gauges, crack only the high side service valve. Open BOTH manifold valves at the same time and loosen the hose connection at the low-side service valve. This will purge everything but the middle hose. It can then be purged separately by loosening the middle hose at the plug connection.
