Answer to Question 1

A hazard is a condition or combination of conditions that, if left uncorrected, may lead to an accident, illness, or property damage.

Answer to Question 2

Safety training should be mandatory for all new hires as part of their orientation and for all employees any time they change positions or job sites. Orientation training should be generic and broadly applicable. In addition, job-site specific training should be provided before a new employee is allowed to begin work. Updating training should be provided periodically so that new information is communicated to employees and old information is refreshed. Training, as a requirement, appears in numerous OSHA regulations.

Dogs have been used in studies to detect various cancers in human subjects. They have been trained to sniff breath samples from humans that were collected by having them breathe into special tubes. These people included 55 lung cancer patients, 31 breast cancer patients, and 83 cancer-free patients. The dogs detected 54 of the 55 lung cancer patients as having cancer, detected 28 of the 31 breast cancer patients, and gave only three false-positive results (detecting cancer in people who didn't have it).
