Answer to Question 1

Galaxies are being separated from each other as space-time expands. As it expands, photons travelling through space are stretched so that their wavelength increases. Photons from distant sources spend more time travelling through space and are stretched more. Therefore, when an astronomer measures the redshift to a distant galaxy, he or she is measuring the spectra to their apparent brightness. When a galaxy is moving away from the observer, their spectrum has shifted to longer (red) wavelengths.

Answer to Question 2

False

The human body's pharmacokinetics are quite varied. Our hair holds onto drugs longer than our urine, blood, or saliva. For example, alcohol can be detected in the hair for up to 90 days after it was consumed. The same is true for marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy, heroin, methamphetamine, and nicotine.

There can actually be a 25-hour time difference between certain locations in the world. The International Date Line passes between the islands of Samoa and American Samoa. It is not a straight line, but "zig-zags" around various island chains. Therefore, Samoa and nearby islands have one date, while American Samoa and nearby islands are one day behind. Daylight saving time is used in some islands, but not in others—further shifting the hours out of sync with natural time.
